Concert Chorale is a 50 member select ensemble that focuses on excellence. The choir sings a wide variety of music literature ranging from pop/rock to classical. Over the past 19 years, Concert Chorale has received 10 Division I ratings at State Large Group Festival. The choir performs at three major concerts per year (Christmas, Soup & Song, and Parade of Choirs), Soundsations, and Graduation.

Women’s Choir
Women's Choir is a non-select choir that focuses on musical and vocal skill development, sings a wide variety of music, and performs at three major concerts each year.

Jazz Choir
Jazz Choir is a small select group that meets outside the school day to explore the world of vocal jazz. This group performs at the Soup & Song concert, Soundsations, Jazz Festivals, and makes many people happy delivering Singing Valentines in February.
All-State
Vocal music students have many opportunities for a variety of music performances throughout the year. Advanced students up for a challenge, audition for the All-State Chorus. Being selected as a member of the All-State Choir is the highest individual honor available to high school vocal musicians. Six hundred voices are chosen from among thousands who audition. Successful students rehearse together with a nationally known conductor for two days before singing in the Festival Concert in Ames. Humboldt has had 14 students reach this pinnacle, some as many as 3 times in their high school career.

Barbershop Festival
That's not all! In conjunction with the Fort Dodge "Harmony Brigade," Humboldt High School hosts a one-of-a-kind Barbershop Festival each year which all of the vocal music students attend. Many students from other area schools also attend and get to know this wonderful American art form. Two award-winning quartets from the Midwest preside as teachers and directors for a student male ensemble, and a student female ensemble.

Soundsations
Students also have the opportunity to "rock out" on the annual Soundsations variety show, singing songs by their favorite artists. Last year's show was titled "Set the Night to Music". The show featured tap, jazz and modern dancing, vocal solos, mime skits, drum solos, original student compositions, and choreographed performances by Concert Chorale and Jazz Choir.
Music Department Trip
As a reward for all this hard work, the music department takes a few days off for a music trip once every four years. Past trip locales include Dallas, Chicago, Toronto, Washington D.C., and New York. Recently, in the Spring of 2011, the music department visited "The Big Apple" - New York!! We took in two Broadway musicals - "Wicked" and the brand new "Spiderman"! The band students had a wonderful and memorable exchange concert with an inner-city high school band, and the choir students received a clinic and performed in "St. John The Divine" cathederal. Other activities included Medieval Times, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Intrepid Sea Air Space Museum, Ellen's Stardust Diner, Times Square, Strawberry Field, Rockefeller Center, and the "Top of the Rock". The kids were great, and we all had a wonderful time! Our next big trip will be in the Spring of 2015. Wonder where we will go?
