College Visits:

  • Drake University @ 8:00 AM - SEPTEMBER 20

Juniors and Seniors interested in visiting with the college reps, please sign up outside Ms. Powers' office and be sure to meet with your teachers for missed work. Reminder, you are NOT excused if you have a test/quiz in your classes that day.


        -       New Information & Scholarships:

  • The PSAT will administered on October 11, 2017 in the high school auditorium lobby. This test is for juniors. Sophomores may take it for practice but will not be entered into the NMSQT scholarship search. The cost is $16.00. The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized test administered by the College Board and cosponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) in the United States. This test measures critical thinking skills in the areas of reading, math problem-solving and writing skills.  It will provide students the type of questions and directions which will be on the SAT.  The cost is $16.00 payable to Humboldt High School.  Payment needs to be received by October 6th.  Students can sign up in the office by Sept. 20th.

  • HHS Presents “Fill out the FAFSA” Please stop in anytime between 3pm -7:30pm on Monday, October 17th.

  • College Fair-Iowa Central Sept. 28 from 9- 10:30 am This would count as one of your college visits. See Mrs Powers for more details. 

  • UNI Business Day Friday, October 27 8-1:30 register at UNI.edu/businessday

  • Buena Vista University is hosting a Science Visit Day on Saturday Nov. 18 call 800.383.9600 or visit bvu.edu/stem-careers 

  • Claim Aid - Deadline January, 15, 2018. Star Student Scholarship of Iowa- for a graduating senior who receives special education services and plans to attend college. Special Education Teacher Scholarship of Iowa- graduating senior who plans to study Education specifically Special Education. Apply at www.claimaid.com/iowa-scholarships  

  • Mediacom Communications World Class Scholarship - Apply www.mediacomworldclass.com application by Feb. 16, 2018 

  • North Iowa Regional Career Fair April 4. 2018 at NIACC campus Mason City

  • College and Career Day May 2018 At NIACC for Juniors

  • CMC, Grinnell, and Scripps are hosting an evening program for prospective students, families, and counselors on Thursday, September 28 at 6:00 pm at Central Academy in Des Moines. In addition speaking about their colleges, they will discuss the value of a liberal arts education and tips for applying to selective colleges. Register at connect.cmc.edu/register/Iowa
  • Golden Circle College & Career Fair Students of all ages are encouraged to visit the annual Golden Circle College and Career Fair. Whether you're a freshmen or sophomore just starting to explore career options, or a junior or senior narrowing your list of college choices, Golden Circle College & Career Fair is the perfect opportunity for you to gather knowledge, make connections, and begin to make informed decisions about your future.
  • 2017 Fair: Sunday, September 24, 2017 New Location: Iowa Center for Higher Education - 2500 Fleur Drive, Des Moines (map) Time: 12:30 - 3 pm.


  • How to Pay for College: Understanding the Financial Aid Process Regional presentation will be at Iowa Central Community College on September 27, 2017 6 pm. This event is free to the public.

ICCC Foundation Scholarships

  • Deadline: Vary per scholarship
  • There are many scholarships available for seniors planning to attend Iowa Central Community College in the fall. Go to www.iowacentral.edu/foundation/scholarships
  • If you are applying for multiple, and trying to submit it electronically then save the document as a PDF and email to vanmeer@iowacentral.edu

Iowa College Aid Commission offers several scholarships and grants for college bound students. Go to www.iowacollegeaid.gov for a complete listing and qualifications.

Seniors who are thinking of attending ISU in the fall:

Here are the steps that they need to complete to be considered for Office of Student Financial Aid awards:

  1. Go to the scholarship section of ISU's Financial Aid Website (www.financialaid.iastate.edu)
  2. Select the Office of Student Financial Aid Scholarships (FinAidScholar) button
  3. Select "Freshman" 
  4. Read the directions
  5. Register for a Net-ID (Directions included on website)
  6. Click on "Apply on our FinAidScholar Website"!
  7. Log in with your Net-ID
  8. Select the Freshman Application
  9. Click on "Click Here to Apply!"
  10. Complete the application by 1 December
  11. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to 1 December . 
    1. The first time a student/family is able to complete the FAFSA application is 1 October of the student's senior year.

Note: If you have already completed the FinAidScholar application, you do NOT need to complete another one.

This application is ONLY for scholarships administered through The Office of Student Financial Aid. Please be sure to check with Admissions, your college and/or department, and private donors to maximize your scholarship search.
