Juniors and Seniors interested in visiting with the college reps, please sign up outside Ms. Powers' office and be sure to meet with your teachers for missed work. Reminder, you are NOT excused if you have a test/quiz in your classes that day.

●9/20: Drake University at 11:15 AM

●9/25: Iowa Central Community College at 9 am

  • PSAT/NMSQT  Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018, the cost is $16.00. 

    Students interested in taking the PSAT need to sign up in the office. The test will be administered at the high school.   The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a standardized test which measures reading, written language and mathematical skills. It is administered by the College Board and co-sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) in the United States. It is designed to mirror the SAT as well as a preliminary test for the National Merit Scholarship (for 11th grades students only).  Students will also receive mini-scholarships on their Raise.Me profiles at potential colleges. here are free practice tests and questions on the website listed below:



  • Golden Circle College Fair

    Iowa's largest College and Career Fair over 130 colleges in attendance, career clusters and breakout sessions available.

    Sunday, Sept. 23 from 12:30-3 pm  at the Iowa Center for Higher Education Activities Center 2280 Bell Ave, Des Moines, Iowa

Students - Get Your Barcode. www.gotocollegefairs.org/ 

Golden Circle is automated, meaning exhibitors will have scanners to take down prospective student information. Students could register online and bring a barcode to the fair. Any college that piques their interest can scan the barcode directly from asmart phone or from a printed copy you brought to the fair. No more filling out information cards, one scan and the colleges will send you additional information on their institution.


  • College fair at Iowa Central on Wednesday, September 26th from 9:00 AM-10:30 AM at the Career Education Building.  This will count as one of your 2 college visit days. You will need to sign up in the office by September 25th if you plan to attend. A parent/guardian will still need to call in for your absence.


  • Iowa College Access Network is offering Regional presentations for career and college planning, as well as the financial aid process. These presentations are free and open to the public.

  • Stuff the Stadium at Iowa Central Community College on September 29th starting with a visit day in the morning at 8:30 AM then the game in the afternoon. It is a great way for students to visit on a Saturday if they can’t make it during the week. Plus an opportunity to win scholarships and other prizes!


  • The Iowa Senate, House of Representatives, and Legislative Services Agency invite Iowa high school juniors and seniors to apply for Page positions for the 2019 session of the Iowa General Assembly.  Serving as a legislative page is a great opportunity for students.   • Taking the Road Less Traveled is a one day conference for 8-10th grade girls to learn about science, technology, engineering, and math college majors through hands on activities and presentations. Register early as these fill up very fast!

    Cost: $15 per student/chaperone 

    Dates: FALL 2018:  November 8 (9-10th grade) SPRING 2019: & April 11 (9-10th grade)

  • Kiwanis Key Leader weekend 

Nov. 9-11, 2018 at the Sunstream Retreat Center in Ogden, IA

Kiwanis Key Leader program is built on key principles that reflect the mission of the group to inspire young people to achieve their personal best through service leadership. Students experience large and small group curriculum, hands-on activities, indoor and outdoor activities, and a ropes teambuilding course. This is a fun and excellent opportunity. Interested students see Mrs. Powers by Oct. 17, 2018.

Applications are now available for the 2019 Prudential Spirit of Community Award. This honors students who make meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service. Students can apply online at spirit.prudential.com or nassp.org/spirit

*By November 6, 2018, students must:

  • Complete the application
  • Complete the student/parent agreement
  • Go to the "certification'" tab on the application, then email or print and deliver instructions for your certifier 
    • Certifiers can be your school principal, Ms. Westhoff or the head of a county 4-H organization, Girl Scout council, American Red Cross chapter, YMCA or Affiliate of Points of Light's HandsOn Network. 


Profile in Courage Essay contest  Deadline: Jan 18, 2019

The John F. Kennedy Library Foundation invites U.S. high school students to describe and analyze an act of political courage by a U.S. elected official who served during or after 1917, the year John F.
