College Visits:  

  • Northwest Iowa Community College will be here on February 22 at 2:30 to visit with current juniors and seniors.
  • Iowa Lake Community College will be here to visit with Juniors and Seniors on February 26th at 11:30
  • Kirkwood will be here at 12:30 on February 28

Juniors and Seniors interested in visiting with the college reps, please sign up outside Ms. Powers' office and be sure to meet with your teachers for missed work. Reminder, you are NOT excused if you have a test/quiz in your classes that day.


        -       New Information & Scholarships:

  • Scholarships with a March Deadline

  • The Pocahontas County Soil and Water Conservation District will be giving two $750 scholarships this year. These scholarships are being offered locally to any graduating senior that resides within Pocahontas County. See Mrs. Powers for application. Deadline is April 1, 2018



The Oakdale Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America is proud to announce an essay scholarship contest open to graduating seniors, who are enrolled in the Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, Humboldt, and the Eagle Grove school districts.

The essay is to be a 200-400 words essay on the preservation of wildlife, and the conservation of the land. Entries must be sent by March 10, 2018 See Mrs. Powers for more information


  • Humboldt County Cattleman Association Scholarship application is available in the office or from Mrs. Powers.  The application is due April 13th.


  • The Northwest Iowa Down Syndrome Society offers scholarships for students who plan to major in special education- the Buddy Scholarship. For more information go to  http://www.nwiadownsyndromesociety.org/our-programs. The scholarship application is not yet available so keep checking their website.


  • Briar Cliff University Seniors who plan to attend Briar Cliff and belong to a Catholic parish in the Diocese of Sioux City may be eligible for the Bishop's Scholarship. For more details go to  https://www.briarcliff.edu/BishopScholar


  • This scholarship is for any senior that meets the following criteria:

-Will be a Humboldt High School Graduate

-Been involved in the Wildcat Wrestling Club throughout his/her Career.

-Involved in Humboldt Wildcat Wrestling in High School

-Pursuing higher level education

Events, Meetings & Conferences:



  • University of Iowa College of Business,the Tippie Gateway Program is intended for high school juniors. The program is in the summer between the students junior and senior year. Preference will be given to applicants from populations under-represented in business including minority, low-income, and/or first-generation.  They will select 45 students to participate in this scholarship-funded program. The only cost for participants is their travel to and from campus.

Program highlights:

· Six-day, residential program: Sunday June 24 through Friday June 29, 2018

· No cost to the students; housing, meals, and other expense are covered by scholarships

· Learn about the various business majors: Business Analytics, Finance, Marketing, Accounting, Management, Economics etc

· Interactive workshops focused on their strengths as students and leaders

· Participate in a case study competition

· Interact with students, faculty, staff and alumni of the Tippie College of Business

  • Master Builders of Iowa is hosting two separate career fairs for students interested in entering the commercial construction industry and general information about industry itself. Students will have the opportunity to meeti with 20-25 companies lunch is included. Please sign up in the office if interested in attending.

Mediacom Communications World Class Scholarship - Apply www.mediacomworldclass.com application by Feb. 16, 2018

Monsanto-Grow Ag Leaders is offering scholarships for students who plan to study an ag-related field. Go to GrowAgLeaders.com for more details. Will close in Feb 2018.

Humboldt County Farm Bureau will be awarding two $500 scholarships.  The application form is available at www.iowafarmbureau.com in a working PDF format under the “Member Benefits” section.  Applicant’s parents must be Humboldt County Farm Bureau members in order to apply.  The local scholarships are not limited to a specific area of study.  However, to qualify for one of the IFBF scholarships, you must follow their guidelines.  All non-winning scholarship applicants will receive a one-time $50 scholarship.  Submit only one completed application to the Humboldt County Farm Bureau office on or before March 1.  It will be used for both the local and state scholarships.

Bank Iowa Spirit of Chandy Scholarship   Deadline: postmarked no later than March 5, 2018.

  • Eligibility Applicants for the Bank Iowa Spirit of Chandy Scholarship must be high school seniors who plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited four year college or university, or a two-year junior or community college in the fall following graduation.
  • This scholarship program is available to Bank Iowa customers and non-customers. Preference will be given to students who participate in the activities Chandy loved: swimming in particular, as well as biking, running and flying.

Black Note Scholarship                 Deadline: rolling basis until March 30, 2018

  • Black Note is looking to award a $2,000 scholarship to each student that shares innovative, ingenious or just plain good ideas on ways to help smokers put down cigarettes and join the world’s smoke-free movement.

Brian Pearson Memorial Scholarship      Deadline: April 30, 2018

  • Applications for the 2018 Brian Pearson Memorial Scholarship are now available. This is a scholarship in honor of former Iowa State University basketball player Brian Pearson, who died of brain cancer in the fall of 1997. We have been awarding this scholarship since 1998.
  • This scholarship is awarded to one male and one female each year.
  • Applicants must be high school juniors or seniors for the 2016-2017 school year who have previously participated in any Iowa Games events (Summer Iowa Games, Winter Iowa Games, Iowa Games Net Fest or Iowa Games Mud Run). 
  • Go to: www.iowagames.org under the About Tab select the Brian Pearson scholarship.

Pearl Hull Falk Scholarship administered by MidWestOne Bank, as Trustee of the Pearl Hull Falk Trust is now available.

  • Eligibility Requirements: 

1) Of the Protestant faith            2) Resident  of the State of Iowa  

              3)  Attending the University of Iowa full-time

Horatio Alger  Scholarship Deadline: varies 

  • Applicants must exhibit a strong desire to pursue a bachelor’s degree regardless of financial or adversity barriers. 
  • Critical Financial need $55,000 or lower adjusted gross income per family, Involvement in co-curricular and community service activities, Minimum GPA of 2.0, US citizen.

ICCC Foundation Scholarships

Iowa College Aid Commission offers several scholarships and grants for college bound students. Go to www.iowacollegeaid.gov for a complete listing and qualifications.

Seniors who are thinking of attending ISU in the fall:

Here are the steps that they need to complete to be considered for Office of Student Financial Aid awards:

  1. Go to the scholarship section of ISU's Financial Aid Website (www.financialaid.iastate.edu)
  2. Select the Office of Student Financial Aid Scholarships (FinAidScholar) button
  3. Select "Freshman" 
  4. Read the directions
  5. Register for a Net-ID (Directions included on website)
  6. Click on "Apply on our FinAidScholar Website"!
  7. Log in with your Net-ID
  8. Select the Freshman Application
  9. Click on "Click Here to Apply!"
  10. Complete the application by 1 December
  11. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to 1 December . 
    1. The first time a student/family is able to complete the FAFSA application is 1 October of the student's senior year.

Note: If you have already completed the FinAidScholar application, you do NOT need to complete another one.

This application is ONLY for scholarships administered through The Office of Student Financial Aid. Please be sure to check with Admissions, your college and/or department, and private donors to maximize your scholarship search.
