Good afternoon, all!
I wanted to provide a quick update for planning purposes for our families. We are scheduled to take our Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress (ISASP - formerly known as the Iowa Test of Basic Skills) in a two week window from April 12th-23rd. This will assess student learning and knowledge in the areas of Reading, Math, and Language/Writing for our 3rd and 4th grade students only. Grade level teams have decided on a schedule that will be shared in the coming weeks; please do your best to have your child here during these days! The tests will take place primarily in the mornings. Thanks in advance for your help with this!
Below are our grade level highlights for the week:
1st grade - Students are learning about the difference between wants and needs in social studies.
2nd grade - Students are using Flipgrid videos to explain the theme of a story and to describe a shape in math.
3rd grade - Students have been learning about fractions - comparing and equivalent fractions!
4th grade - Students read a biography this week about inventor Stephanie Kwolek. She created a material called Kevlar that is used to make protective clothing of many types. Kaleigh Vinsand brought her dad's protective vest to school and showed the students in each class what the Kevlar inserts in his vest look like, and we were able to see how they protect him as a sheriff's deputy.
Easter Egg Hunt for children in grades Preschool through 3rd Grade will be Saturday, March 27 at Humboldt Recreation Center. The Humboldt-Dakota City Noon Kiwanis in conjunction with the Humboldt Parks and Recreation Department are the event sponsors. The hunt will be outside in the east parking area of the Rec Center. If there is rain it will be moved inside. Participants will be divided into groups according to grade in school. Face coverings are required and social distancing will be observed. Because of the pandemic, children will be given bags of candy rather than racing out to retrieve candy. There will be specialty prizes and gifts from area merchants. The Kiwanis Club is also giving away a large Easter Basket and a children’s bicycle for each age group. The Easter Bunny will be there for photos with children.
1st & 2nd Grade Coach Pitch Baseball and Softball - Deadline is May 7th. Registration and payment are due to the Humboldt Rec Center.
3rd-6th Grade Baseball Registration - Deadline is May 7th. Registration and payment are due to the Humboldt Rec Center.
