Good afternoon, Taft Families!
We were busy in 3rd and 4th grade this week taking our ISASP (Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress) assessments. 4th grade completely finished their assessments outside of a few make-ups, and 3rd grade only has the language/writing portion to complete this coming Tuesday. Thank you to all parents for helping to support our students by encouraging them to get a good night’s rest and to eat breakfast on the day of these assessments; after talking to many teachers, I know that our students gave it their best effort, which is all that we can ever ask of them!
Also, thank you to PATHS as they provided gum for each student during these assessments. Research shows a correlation between chewing gum and increased brain activity. Our students appreciated it!
Below are a few highlights from our building for the week:
1st grade - Students are learning about halves and fourths in math class in 1st grade!
2nd grade - Students are studying Earth’s resources and taking care of the Earth that will correlate with Earth Day next week.
3rd grade - Students are taking a Community Art Walk. They are taking pictures of landscaping, architecture, etc. to get ideas that will be used in creating a watercolor. Their art will represents observations of surroundings at home, school, and community cultural traditions, and events
4th grade - Students completed state standardized tests in the areas of math, reading and written language. Teachers were so impressed by the level of effort that was given. Students have learned a lot so far this year, and they were eager to show what they know.
