Note from Mrs. Haselhuhn:

Good afternoon!

With conferences next week, we wanted to remind everyone about our report cards (this was shared in our welcome-back letter in August.)

  • We will only report twice per year instead of three times per year.  These reports will occur in February and at the end of the year.  There are only about 40 instructional days before the first conferences, so there were a lot of NAs on the report card.  The focus of our conferences will be on observed behaviors, beginning-of-the-year assessments, and classroom work/observations.
  • All grade levels have the same behavior expectations (K-4) along with the same grading scale.  This will help parents and teachers to see progress from year to year. The academic scale will be B, P, M, and NA (Beginning, Progressing, Meeting, and Not Assessed.)  The behavior scale will be 1 (Rarely), 2 (Sometimes), and 3 Almost Always.
  • Instead of broad categories, like reading comprehension, each grade level will report on their identified priority standards in reading and math.  There will be approximately 6-8 specific standards/skills that are reported in each subject.  This isn’t all that is taught, but these are the crucial standards and skills we intervene directly upon.

Weather permitting, students will participate in a hayrack ride on November 2nd. Our fall parties are scheduled for November 3rd; this will be 30-45 minute fall-themed party in their classroom.  Kindergarten will get more specific information out to you in the next week or two.

Big thank you to Wempens Garden Center for passing out flowers to all the teachers for Pedal It Forward Day. It was greatly appreciated and put a smile on our faces.

Reminder: We will dismiss 2 hours early, at 1:15, on Monday the 23rd AND Thursday the 26th.  We will NOT dismiss early on Wednesday but will hold a full day of school with dismissal at 3:15. No School on Friday October 27th.
