Good afternoon!

Our 4th-grade music programs are scheduled for next Tuesday, January 30th, at the high school auditorium.  There will be a 6:00 PM performance with Mrs. Jenness’, Mrs. Kampen’s, and Mrs. Hjelmeland’s class performing.  The 7:00 performance will feature Mrs. Vento’s, Mrs. Parle’s, and Mrs. Moranville’s classes.  We are looking forward to two great performances!

With the second half of the year upon us, our ISASP (Iowa Statewide Assessment of Student Progress) window is quickly approaching.  The testing window here in Humboldt is scheduled for March 18th-27th, with the tests being taken by students in 3rd-11th grade.  Please mark your calendars for this week and a half; attendance is so important, as finding make-up times to complete can be difficult.  Here are some good test-taking tips to review as that date gets closer: Test-Taking Tips.

Upcoming Parenting Workshops Offered Online from The Science of Parenting

AMES, Iowa – Research conducted by Zero to Three (2016), found that parents need and want information and support. Eighty percent of parents work to be better parents, and 69 percent of parents say if they knew more parenting strategies, they would use them. Despite this motivation, however, almost half of parents say they aren’t getting the support they need during times of stress.

The Science of Parenting team from Iowa State University has scheduled online workshops to help parents learn strategies to use.

The four workshops being offered in February are “Understanding Research and Reality,” “Understanding Temperament,” “Children’s Ages and Parenting Stages,” and “Positive Discipline.”

These workshops all focus on the objective of sharing research-based information that fits each family’s own reality. In the first workshop, you will discover how we can connect what research is telling us about parenting to our everyday lives. The second workshop is all about temperament – or the unique traits we all have and how to navigate them. The third helps parents and caregivers better understand child development, and the fourth addresses the common question of “How do I practice positive discipline and manage my child’s behavior?”.

“Understanding Research and Reality” will be Thursday, Feb. 8 online from noon to 1:00 p.m. Registration is online athttps://go.iastate.edu/2K4XRF. This workshop is approved for foster parent credit hours.

“Understanding Temperament” will be held online Thursday, Feb. 15, from noon to 1:00 p.m. Register online at https://go.iastate.edu/KXFK2A.

“Children’s Ages and Parenting Stages” will take place online Thursday, Feb. 22, from noon to 1:00 p.m. Register online athttps://go.iastate.edu/SVL0RE.

“Positive Discipline” is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 29, online from noon to 1:00 p.m. Register online athttps://go.iastate.edu/UHJQP6. This workshop is approved for foster parent credit hours.

These workshops are free for participants, but you are asked to register ahead of time to receive the class link and materials.
